Getting started — 12.8%

Introduction Solo is a call handling system which controls SIP phone calls. The calls can be originated or answered on-screen from within Solo using a mouse or touchscreen. A full database of calls and caller information is maintained and details of each caller can be entered to be automatically recalled when they call in again. The caller's audio is heard through the soundcard of the PC or via a SIP handset if configured. Solo can make and receive calls over SIP lines or, by the use of a SIP gateway, over [...]

Line box layout Controlling calls in Solo is both intuitive and straightforward. Essential information for each active call is shown in Solo's linebox. A typical example is shown below, along with an indication of which information is being shown where. Call State The Call State information tells us what state the call is currently in. In the example above, the call is "Held". It is not routed to a device and the caller would probably be waiting to go on air, whilst hearing the station output on their telephone. Other common states [...]

What kit do you need to get a Solo running? — 5.4%

Main Solo A SIP gateway or service. Solo will register with the gateway to make and receive calls. A Windows PC to run Solo on. A supported soundcard. With Solo 2.0 and above any WAVE or ASIO soundcard should work – but see our other tips for more information on this as better cards have lower latency. Optional – a Linksys handset to screen callers without using the mixing desk. Optional - Advantech GPI/O card for service ringing/device occupied outputs and answer [...]

Suitable soundcards — 4.1%

NOTE - This article applies to Solo version 1. Most consumer quality sound cards are too slow to be used acceptably with Solo - it is not recommended that you attempt to use a SoundBlaster or similar, or any onboard soundcard as these tend to be far too slow to be deemed acceptable for use - the latency of the card is extremely important when talking 'live' to a caller! WDM Driver Any soundcard intended for use with Solo must have a 'Windows Driver Model' (WDM) driver installed (also sometimes referred to [...]

Suitable soundcards — 3.4%

NOTE - This article applies to Solo version 2. Most soundcards with a WAVE driver will now work with Solo but consideration should be made with regards to the latency of the soundcard as there can be a big difference between cards. The latency of the card is extremely important when talking 'live' to a caller! Soundcards must support 48k sample rate at 16bit. ASIO Solo version 2 onwards supports ASIO soundcards. See ASIO Support. ASIO drivers tend to have lower latency than WAVE drivers as they allow direct [...]

Call Recording and Editing — 1.4%

Call Recording And Editing One of Solo's killer features is that it automatically records each on-air call for future editing and playback. Once a call has left the device, an editor icon appears on it, as shown below. Selecting the record icon opens the record window (which follows) which gives you the opportunity to edit the call and save it to file for future use. Additionally you are able to isolate each side of the call if required. Recordings are now also accessible by right-clicking the recording icon in the Call Log for the relevant record. This will [...]
